The Emflow Story.

Emflow was established by Mr. Doug Emmins in 1988 at his irrigation and pastoral property at Bow Hill, South Australia. Onions, potatoes and sheep were the main products of his rural labours - but then came Emflow Valves!

His interest in valves arose out of a requirement for his business to operate around 50km of irrigation mains and sub-mains, with maximum reliability and with minimum complaints and cost. The irrigation system had to look after itself.

In 1985 he changed over from manually-operated gate valves to an automatically-controlled system using diaphragm valves. He soon became disenchanted with some of the valves installed and found himself advising manufacturers on how to alter their valve designs. It was then that he decided to make his own valves.

After sharing his ideas with his pattern-maker friend he commenced producing cast iron and brass valves. After the development period, to his delight, official flow-tests conducted by the Australian Irrigation technology Centre found that the EMFLOW valves offered the lowest head-loss of any valves on the market. This feature clearly contributes to lower pumping costs on any irrigation system. In addition, unique enhancements have been progressively made to the internal components of the valves, as indicated in the Emflow brochure.

The BIG addition to the range is the recent invention, now patented, of the world's first 'Drop-in Valve". The uniquely designed coupling allows the valve to drop into place in an existing pipe for a quick and easy installation, while the existing valve remains in position.

The Emflow range now extends to 24 valves for pipe sizes 40mm to 150mm. The products are used in irrigation and industrial applications in a growing market in all Australian states, with valves now being exported to the USA and New Zealand.
